Welcome to the School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies at South Dakota State University, home to distinguished researchers, students and teachers. Our school is committed to providing a supportive and dynamic teaching and research environment that equips and inspires faculty and students to learn, create and apply knowledge in psychology, sociology and rural studies. 

Our school is staffed by over one-dozen faculty members who have diverse training and interests in psychological and sociological sciences. Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty members both inside and outside of the classroom. Our graduates are prepared for a wide array of careers in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, medicine, law and related areas.


Our Online Bachelor's in Psychology program is among the nation’s best in new rankings by U.S. News and World Report (2022). 

Our online criminal justice minor program is among the nation’s best in new rankings by Intelligent.com (2022).

SDSU to host ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Community Read events

A series of events featuring the bestselling book “Killers of the Flower Moon” this semester will culminate April 5, when author David Grann will give a lecture on the South Dakota State University campus. The events — Community Read discussions, a free movie screening and the author lecture — are all part of SDSU’s School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies’ first-ever Community Read.
